Background information

Capacity Development (CD) of the health facilities and communities’ staff is one of the main roles of the Public Nutrition Directorate (PND) in the country.

PND implements the CD programs through its nutrition partner’s technical and financial support both on national and provincial levels.

For better capacity building, PND always tries to develop new packages of training guidelines, manuals, protocols and relevant checklists. The ones developed by PND, so for are as following:

PND’s main CD programs are divided into three types:

  • Long term CD programs
  • Mid-term CD programs
  • Short term CD programs

1- Long term CD programs:

  • Establishing recurrent batches of Post Graduate Diploma of Public Health Nutrition (PGD PHN) Program for MDs, nurses, midwives and others having medical background, through CS/EU Nutrition Project support in KUMS
  • Establishing on going Under Graduate Diploma of Nutrition program (UGDN), through CS/EU Nutrition Project support in GIHS
  • Following up/maintaining Nutrition department within the KUMS and GIHS structure
  • Following up/maintaining of Nutrition in all KUMS and GIHS faculties curriculum
  • Following up/maintaining inclusion of Nutrition in MPH program of KUMS
  • Advocacy for creating nutrition master and PhD degree holder cadres

2- Mid-term CD programs (courses):

 Establishing one year nutrition diploma program through AKF under the USAID/IHSAN funded project for 25 students
